Ok, so it’s not so much an extravaganza as it is…well…an awesome playlist. Or at least an initial attempt at one, ha! Since Maya and Leela’s first adventure involves learning about the various Dances of India, we figured it would be exciting to bring some music and dance into the conversation. I mean, what better way to Free Your Dance? Besides, many of you have expressed an interest in songs that you and your children can dance to. Which tickles our hearts. All smiles.
Sooooo…we created an official Dances of India playlist, which you can access on our YouTube page (and above!). Because, when it comes down to it, the visual components of dance are just as important, if not more so, than the music that often accompanies it. The playlist covers songs from the four distinct dance forms in the book (Bhangra, Bharatanatyam, Dandiya Raas, and Chhau) in addition to some of our Bollywood faves.
We’ve also added comments, which provide a little background and context, as well as opportunities for you and your children to learn about the movements, which are all so impressively unique. And, given that little ones may be watching the dances with you, we did our best to include videos that are age-appropriate. 🙂
If you’re interested in coming up with ways to Free Your Dance, definitely check out our Experience More page. For instance, think about throwing impromptu dance parties in your kitchen or living room. It’s amazing how much children adore getting their bop and spin on. Not to mention, it’s so freeing as an adult to let loose, with no inhibitions, and play! And dance!
Anyway, we hope you enjoy the playlist. And, of course, we’re always open to adding to it, so we welcome recommendations!
